Meet Dan

Hi I'm Dan and thanks for visiting my coaching page.  What I’m about and looking to achieve is to develop our emerging 16-23yo athletes who are interested in taking that next step and working towards competing as an elite triathlete.  A key observation I’ve had is that it is very difficult for our older junior athletes to make the jump from being a competitive junior to elite.  There are many challenges to overcome and it takes some time.  And it takes even longer or in some cases not at all, if poor decisions are made that de-rail an athletes’ progress.

Since my time coaching in 2009 to now, I've coached or been involved in the coaching process across all levels from kids just giving it a go, age groupers, performance juniors right through to Olympians. In the elite space I’ve had experience at World Triathlon races from the lowest level (junior continental cups) right through to World Triathlon Championship Series races.  Having this experience has given me a clear understanding of what it takes to compete at the elite level and is something that I reverse engineer to help put young athletes on the right track so they can bridge the gap from juniors to elite.

My approach to coaching is a belief in the power of a strong coach-athlete relationship and a stable training environment. The path to becoming an elite triathlete is terribly difficult and to the young, aspiring triathletes there are many pitfalls and decisions to be made.  Having a coach you can trust to help guide you on this development journey and who is also prepared to ride the highs and lows is a performance enhancer.  Equally important is the athlete feeling like they have a say over this process and is free to make decisions.
